GOREY: The Secret Lives of Edward Gorey

GOREY: The Secret Lives of Edward Gorey

Puppetry

World Premiere

Gorey: The Secret Lives of Edward Gorey is a theatrical portrait of the eccentric writer-illustrator Edward Gorey, using his own journals, interviews, letters—and imaginative invention—to explore the contradictions of his life. Three actors portray Gorey at different stages (in his 20s, 40s, and late in life), inhabiting moments large and small—his reclusiveness, obsessions, artistic impulse, and odd habits. The play weaves memory, puppet, projections, and objects from Gorey’s Cape Cod home into a dreamlike tapestry that is part biography, part reverie—inviting the audience into the strange and beautiful world of a singular creator.
