Communal Theater Company

Mission Statement

The Communal Theater Company exists to create spaces of healing, connection, and communion through the art of theater. We present live productions that enrich culture, entertain with purpose, and inspire the communities we serve. At the same time, we are committed to cultivating the talents and skills of theatermakers through workshops, training, and collaborative practice, ensuring that our work not only tells stories but also nurtures the storytellers themselves.

Current Production

Sisterplay

SisterPlay is a candid and intimate examination of love, loss, and defiance. The play narrates the story of Lisa Ostler, who passed away in 2016 while detained at the Salt Lake County Jail. Utilizing memory, poetry, and protest, SisterPlay addresses a sister's overwhelming sorrow while restoring Lisa's humanity. Beyond being a personal tale, it is an activist piece that reveals the systems, culture, and indifference that played a role in Lisa's death.

Join Our Community

At Communal Theater Company, we create spaces for healing, connection, and communion through theater. Our productions invite us to come closer, to listen, to collaborate, to commune.

When you give, you’re not just donating.

You’re joining a community that believes that something significant happens when we experience a story together, in a shared space.

Your support helps us:

  • Bring meaningful productions to life

  • Nurture and train theatermakers

  • Create shared experiences that connect artists and audiences

This is communal theater. It exists because of people like you. People who believe in the power of storytelling to heal, to unite, and to transform.

Join our community.

Cross the frontier between you and me.

Be part of the work.

Our Donor Community

These individuals and organizations make our work possible. Deeply grateful for their support, belief in communal theater, and the power of story.
